Nursing Metaphragma Teaching Plan

Teaching plan The intended audience for this patient is an 89 year old female patient that has Squamous cell carcinoma. Along with squamous cell carcinoma, she has arthritis, fatigues, CAD, and knee osteoarthritis. Due to her arthritis in her joints is unable to complete some of the tasks she normally can complete such as, washing her hair, washing her back and doing laundry. She is using a walker to help with her mobility and to prevent falls. She shows willingness and excitement to learn. She is alert and oriented and is developmentally able to learn. This patient needs some education on the skills that a home health nurse can provide to help make her life as easy and safe as possible.

These techniques may help her be able to complete more physical activities around the house. To help the patient understand I could print off a few pictures of different techniques. During our visit, she stated that she likes fridge magnets so if I could put the pictures on a magnet to help remind her to use these breathing exercises. I could demonstrate diaphragmatic breathing to her. I explain that she will want to relax her shoulders, place one hand on her chest and the other on her abdomen. She will inhale through her nose for about two seconds. Explain to her that as she is breathing in her bully should move outwards. As she breaths out through pursed lips she should gently press on her bully. Once she is done with this breath she should repeat. After I demonstrate and explain this technique to her I will want her to demonstrate and explain it make to me to ensure proper learning. I could demonstrate and explain to her how to do purse lip breathing. To do this breathing technique she will need to breath in through her nose, pucker her lips and breathe out very slowly through her pursed lips, and repeat when
