In every workplace, a leader must rise to give direction, and highlight the importance and core values of the facility. Yukl (as cited in Kelly, 2012) define leadership as, “a process of influence in which the leader influences others toward goal of achievement”. Kelly (2012) summarize a leader as someone who creates change and empower others. Leaders in health care facilities must have a good foundational skill of an exceptional leader. Leader must understand the importance of integrity—doing what is right regardless of the circumstances, to promote positivity and growth in the workplace. The purpose of this paper is to interview a leader from a specific organization, to identify and analyze the role, characteristic and preparation of a nurse leader. This paper will provide guidance and advice for future nurse leaders and novice nurses.

Dyess (as cited in Jewels 2013) points out that “the rising acuity of today’s hospital patients, a reduced length of hospital stay, and the current shortage of nursing staff all contribute to a challenging and stressful environment for novice nurses to navigate”. To achieve success in a health care facility, leaders must set an influential example so that others may also become powerful leaders.
