There are three leadership styles that are commonly used today; (a) democratic-inspires open communication and staff involvement in decisions while having close personal relationships, (b) autocratic-leader decide on resolutions without opinions from staff, (c) lassiez-faire-permissive and passive characteristics who defers decision making (Kelly, 2012). These leadership styles vary among individuals and some may not possess all the essential qualities of an effective leader. The qualities of an effective leader do not focus on the traits learned, but on the inherited talents that the individual possesses. In the nursing profession, a nurse manager's personal style of leadership impacts multiple aspects of a healthcare facility's operations. Being adept in recognizing these styles enables nurses to develop their skills to become better leaders, as well as improving relationships with colleagues and other leaders, who have previously been challenging to work with. For example, 24 studies reported that leadership styles focused on people and relationships (transformational, resonant, supportive, and consideration) were associated with higher nurse job satisfaction, whereas 10 studies found that leadership styles focused on tasks (dissonant, instrumental and management by exception) were associated with lower nurse job satisfaction. However, the new current proposal management requires nurses numerous skills closely influenced by its leadership: giving credit to those who deserve, take risks, to determine a goal, play the role, be competent, foster enthusiasm, cultivate faith and delegate are characteristics that can be acquired by nurses in day-to-day work, through commitment and confidence in your abilities. In a market increasingly competitive, nurses must be prepared to take the many functions assigned to it. Thus, I believe that it is of fundamental importance the preparation of nurses regarding the leadership skills so that nursing actions linked to leadership is considered natural.
