Leadership means leading a group of people or an organization. I believe being a leader can have a great impact on one’s life and many others. My definition of a leader and what I aspire to be, is an individual that creates an inspiring vision of the future, by ultimately motivating and inspiring people to think positively to make that vision a reality. As a new- graduate nurse, enrolled in the Leadership course at the New York City College of Technology. I hope to gain a deeper understanding of the concepts and management practices to apply to my future endeavors and personal growth. The two assignments I am looking forward into completing are the resume and the oral presentation. My hope for the resume assignment is to receive feedback on my on my CV, so I can make corrections and tailor it to what the hiring manager will find unique to set me apart from the other applicants. After the review of the class and introductions the class went on a tour of the facility and identify the nurse managers we will be working with throughout the semester. I found each nurse manager to be very nice and willing to help the students, which made me even more eager to learn new skills and build upon the ones I acquired in nursing school. The departments, that the class was able to visit was cardiac, oncology, maternity, and medicine. While visiting these departments I was able to assess my environment. My goal for this semester is to shadow a nurse in the emergency department. . I will be able to assess how the nurse manager handles himself/herself during stressful situations, time management skills, their ability to delegate, and advocate for their clients. In conclusion, I believe that this class will have a positive influence in my nursing career and education because I will gain many leadership skills like management, staffing, budgeting, delegation, and advocacy to provide the best client care tailored and centered on the
