Nursing And Nursing: My Personal Philosophy Of Nursing

Nursing is not just a science or just an art form it is both its a way for caring for those who need help in whatever way possible. A nurse is not just someone who cares for the physical aspect of the person lying in the bed but also cares for the whole aspect of the person and the person’s family. As nurses we work with the patient and the family in order to help them achieve their goals but as a nurse we can’t make the goals for the patient we need to let them tell us what they want and what their maximum is not what we think it should be. Health is whatever the person thinks it is. To one-person health may be free from all illness or injury but to a person who has a chronic disorder like COPD, health may be being able to breath with an oxygen level at 90% but not using any supplement oxygen. Clients with chronic illness can be considered healthy if they are at a level that is satisfying to them. People who have a chronic illness can never be back at one 100% like they were before the illness but they can be at maximum functioning level and to them that may be 75%. It is our goal as nurses to help them reach this level of maximum functioning whether it is 100%, 75%, or 50% whatever they want not what we as the nurse wants.
