The key functional area of nursing relevant to my current position is administration, leadership, and management (American Nurses Association, {ANA} 2015). However, as a Magnet certified organization, employees are encouraged to participate in Research and evaluation (ANA, 2015). Presently, working as a Care coordinator, case manager in my organization, I work between these functional nursing areas. We periodically conduct evidence-based research studies to improve the quality of healthcare as well as meet the Magnet research and evidence-based practice expectations. There are three main areas identified in the TIGER nursing informatics competency model, which encompass: (1) Basic computer competencies, a skill identified from this area, which needs improvement on my part is learning how to utilize databases effectively. With the challenge of information technology and abundance of web information, it is imperative that nurse possesses the knowledge of searching evidence-based practice resources, which is critical in the early stages of conducting research studies. Another area identified is the: (2) Information literacy competencies which are vital in locating pertinent information. My participation in conducting research requires skill competency in searching through large databases of arrays of articles. My improvement warranted in locating needed information on this critical skill to effectively and efficiently access needed evidence-based information (TIGER, 2009). The final area identified in TIGER Initiatives was (3) Information management competencies, in this area the skill, which I could improve is learning how to present and communicate the data, which has already been processed to the appropriate healthcare
