Victor, I agree with you on Nursing Informatics. According to the American Medical Informatics Association (2015) nurse informatics develops communication and information technologies, educators, researchers, chief nursing officers, chief information officers, software engineers, implementation consultants, policy developers, and business owners, to advance healthcare. Nursing Informatics also promotes the best health possible by integrating nursing, its information, and knowledge, with the management of information and communication technologies. Applying Informatics knowledge allows healthcare providers achieve the quality of patient care and promote the health of patients, families and communities both local and global (American Medical…
Theoretical models are the building blocks for research designs. A conceptual model or framework provides a structure that guides the development of a research study and most importantly allows the researcher to link the findings of his/her study with the greater body of knowledge on the topic. By definition, a conceptual framework or model is an abstract, logical structure of meaning (Burns & Grove, 2009). If I do not have an underlying framework for a study, the results may be isolated and disconnected from other research and thus may not be widely adopted.…
It has evolved from the era of racial segregation and marginalization, low social class, uneducated, unmarried women, slaves, to a profession that now uses and applies Evidence Based practice approach in delivering care. Throughout the evolutionary processes, nursing has always been humanitarian in it services. Today, nurses play major role in healthcare administration and policies. The trained nurse means everything and anything and second to nothing. In other words, a skilled nurse is indispensable to the health care…
HealthIT Topic of Week Valerie Ritter Chamberlain College of Nursing Nursing Informatics NR 512 Dr. Rebecca Glenn October 1, 2016 HealthIT Topic of Week Nursing informatics has an impact on every advanced practice profession in nursing. The impact that it plays on the nurse executives holds so much importance. According to Simpson (2013), nurse executives sit at the executive table during technology evaluations and routinely find themselves ill prepared to debate with their physician counterparts.…
Piscotty, R. J., Kalisch, B., & Gracey-Thomas, A. (2015). Impact of Healthcare Information Technology on Nursing Practice. Journal Of Nursing Scholarship, 47(4), 287-293 7p. doi:10.1111/jnu.12138 This article by Piscotty, Kalisch, & Gracey-Thomas discussed the impact that healthcare technology has on nursing as a whole and how it ensures each patient receives the same level of care.…
Baylor Scott & White Health’s (BSWH) mission is achieved through a team that includes many varied proficiencies and experiences. Everyone is an integral part of the team. The standard of conduct includes common respect, understanding, trust and teamwork necessary for effective collaboration. The surroundings should be free of disruptive behaviors. The nursing workplace is erratic and highly energetic (Kim, Nicotera, & McNulty, 2015).…
Nursing Informatics Daniel O’Brien University of Louisiana Lafayette Introduction Informatics, and more specifically, nursing informatics, is continuously playing a larger role in patient care. Informatics is the use of technology and science and making it available to continued and wide spread use (McGonigle, Hunter, Sipes,, & Hebda 2014). McGonigle et al. continues to discuss nursing informatics as using this science of technology to enhance patient care, outcomes, and satisfaction. This tool of informatics allows the nurse to store data, trend this data, and extract useful information for the continuity and improvement in care (McGonigle et al., 2014). Informatics aims to improve the overall knowledge of nursing professionals…
An area of technology that nurses can directly impact is that of information technology (IT) and software development. There needs to be a collaborative effort on the part of IT developers and nurses. Developers know the “ins and outs” of software, but they don’t know the particular needs in the clinical setting. Also, nurses should become involved in the training of other nurses when new technology makes its appearance on their…
Nursing Informatics is the "science and practice (that) integrates nursing, its information and knowledge, with management of information and communication technologies to promote the health of people, families, and communities worldwide." (IMIA Special Interest Group on Nursing Informatics 2009). Using informatics, such as the electronic health record maintain people's health records in the computer instead of paper. Nursing informatics supplies information technologies specifically to enhance nursing efficiency and practice. Informatics in the health care system is used to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error and support clinical decision making in practice.…
Many opportunities for nurses in coming changes will be available and will be ways to help design the future of healthcare. Because of social movements and technologic advances, the profession of nursing has growth and developed in levels of higher education, expanded practice, and the advanced practice role. Also, nursing practice has been affected by medical advances and cost containment strategies. Information technology, computers, and systems have changed the way nursing is perceived. A new level of consumerism is expected in the future as well as an older population.…
Nurses must take a role in leadership to advance changes in healthcare policy, to keep up with changing technology, and promote…
This will improve health outcomes and reduce duplication of nursing efforts. This will also alleviate the strain of not having nursing input when the EHR implementations are being done. Nurses are the central hub of information in healthcare. Nurses interact and interface with every aspect of communicating and assessing patient care needs. This is why successful EHR adaptation hinges on nursing leadership that understand the importance of having nursing input on the design, delivery, training, and implementation of an EHR system (Sensmeier,…
It is said that the employment of Registered nurses is to grow 16% from 2014 to 2024! More RNs will be needed in the field for infants, people with diseases and with senior class people. Registered nurses carry a large amount of responsibilities. RNs are to educate patients and public about health conditions, as well as provide advice/emotional support to the family of the patients.…
Sarah Jessica Parker, an American actress, once said, "I developed a really strong work ethic, and I don't take anything for granted". I feel the same thing applies to me 100%. I tend to use my stress to fuel my drive to get things done, on time, and right. However, I am also human and know where I need assistance. From working hard at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC's) nursing program to serving my residents as a certified nurse's assistant at a retirement home, I feel I am an exceptional fit for the DMACC Foundation Scholarship.…
Foundation of Knowledge model Discharge Summaries relate to Electronic Health Records Nursing informatics is a specialty involving knowledge and technology. According to McGonigle and Mastrian, The Foundation of Knowledge model is a “framework for examining the dynamic interrelationships among data, information, and knowledge used to meet the needs of health care delivery systems, organizations, patients and nurses” (2015). The Foundation of Knowledge model includes acquired knowledge, disseminated knowledge, processed knowledge and generated knowledge.…
