For the last five years plus, I have worked tirelessly and in good faith as an RN at The Berks Family Residential Center, performing above and beyond the expected work standards that are set in place. As a Registered Nurse, the American Nurses Association, a professional organization to advance and protect the profession of nursing, states that “nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations”; moreover, it has set forth The Code of Ethics for Nurses, which was developed as a guide for carrying out nursing responsibilities …show more content…
So much so, that the previous HSA Sean Allain, sent out an email to all staff, asking those that were disgruntled, to please stop demoralizing the rest of the staff, who were trying to do their job, with their toxic remarks and attitudes (see Sean Allain’s Plea attachment). Their belief is that because they work with ICE, it is their duty to inflict punishment onto the resident’s that are housed at Berks’. I believe, that as a RN, my duty is to take care of any medical concerns that these residents may have and to carry out any medical orders put in place by the providers at Berks’, always in a respectful and dignified manner as it would be expected in any medical clinic in the United States. My role is not that of law enforcement. These residents will have their day in court and I will leave it up to the appropriate law authorities to enact the proper measures. In the meantime, as long as my role at Berks’ is to be a RN, I will always treat people with an objective, nonjudgmental, and respectful
