Nurses play a major role in patient care. They are required to be competent in their work, for the security of everyone around them, but specifically for the safety of their patients. There are specific rules and guidelines that must be followed and certain educational courses that are required to be taken to prove that a nurse is competent enough to care for patients.

Showing the patient that they matter, being there for them. 1. Being physically present with the patient, being there for the patient and their family in their time of need. Whether it is a terminal diagnosis or given the all clear. 2. Having a dialogue with the patient, communication is key when it comes to patient care. Using effective and therapeutic communication skills, the nurse strives to establish relationships to assist patients of all ages to manage and become responsible for their own health needs.”
3. Showing a willingness to share and hear to use active listening. When someone decides to become a nurse it’s not just a profession it helps define who they are. To be a good nurse it requires someone to be compassionate, and selfless. Putting others before themselves. There are many internal and external environmental factor in nursing. I work on the pulmonary floor so an external factor is making sure patients have adequate oxygenation and providing them with the assistance of daily living, like brushing their teeth and clean linings. Internal environments are making sure the patients have the correct diets and medication for their diagnosis.
