Nursing Clinical Reflection

Nursing clinicals is a time to learn, grow, and experience real life situations. One experience provided the opportunity for all three; to feel like a nurse, and make a difference in someone’s life. The instance occurred with a female in her late 50s, whom I was able to do my own plan of care, with the exception of medications. In having that responsibility, and learning how to conduct safety concerns is the reason this experience stands out as a principal learning situation.
The patient was admitted for injuries and pain related to an accident, with a history of respiratory problems and depression. Understanding based on the patient's history of chronic pain, acute pain would be a bit more difficult to manage. Furthermore during my assessment I needed to perform a thorough respiratory examination and monitor oxygen saturation. A key aspect in planning patient care, based on my assessment findings, is practicing good time management skills. Another added benefit while doing my own assessment was finding a health concern that was previously missed.
The patient was morbidly obese and in critically thinking, it was important to do a comprehensive skin assessment. In doing so, I found a few areas of skin breakdown. After informing my nurse, she instructed me on what I needed to do. From there I was able to gather the supplies and perform the

Taking the time to see what was going on, I was able to learn information that put the patient in harm. If the patient did not trust me, or I did not take the time to listen, the patient could have carried out their suicide plan. The following day, I was working with the same patient, and she expressed how I helped her and she could see hope. She asked if we could keep in contact, but we discussed how it was not appropriate and crossed the patient-nurse boundaries. In the end, she was a happy and thankful for all that I had

If a nursing intervention follows the nursing process, e.g., assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate – it demonstrates the clinical reasoning that supports the patient care. As cited by Alfaro-Lefevre (2012) Skip the principles of assessment and diagnosis and it’s easy to jump to conclusions, miss risks, and give care based on assumptions rather than evidence. Assessment errors and omissions are a major cause of adverse outcomes. If you fail to plan before implementation, the risk of adverse outcomes also increases. Skip evaluation, and reflective nursing practice (not to mention patient safety) goes out the door (p. 1).…

In terms of patient experience assisting frontline nurses whilst my mother was in hospital after a major surgery the task which involved transferring her to another bed in the next ward over via a wheelchair. The nursing staff and I were mindful of avoiding injury to staff and myself as well as the patient at the same time watching my posture plus doing manual handling procedures and guidance from the nurses. I performed the maneuverer correctly as I was able to advise the nurses to lower the trolley (bed) to the wheelchair height then lift the headrest forward so my mother is sitting upright before carefully moving her body onto the wheelchair in a one motion move by holding one side of her shoulders then pulling her gently and carefully towards…

However, sceptics have questioned how the concept is sometimes interpreted, arguing that there is unclear logical and pragmatic examination of its value in professional development. Therefore, developing a reflective report is an undertaking that needs to be approached with caution, more so if individual reflection and critical thinking are to be rooted. The purpose of this reflective report is to reflect on the collaborative boat bus project performance and the experiences of working within a multidisciplinary group. The report will give consideration to the feedback we obtained from the client and from Adam Smith (tutor) and how we then applied this feedback to feed in the report writing. An iterative model, meaning learning through participating, somewhat adapted to the one in Bulman and Schultz (2013)’s ‘Reflective Practice in Nursing p232’, Gibbs (1988)’s reflective cycle explains the significance of the evaluation process, especially building on negative as well as positive feedback.…

I have a similar view compare to yours, I firmly believe that nurses or advance practice nurses do apply theories, models and principle in daily nursing practice, however, the theories, models and principles are simply gone unnoticed. There is room for improvement to enhance the awareness of theories, models and principles that are being applied, however I believe that does not represent the theory-practice gap. I appreciate your expression on how you have gained deeper understanding of the theories that you have learned, and you are planning on including more theories into future practice. I have adjusted my philosophy after the semester of learning. At beginning of the semester, I simply believe one particular theory will support my advance…

Nurses are expected to continue developing their skills and gain more knowledge throughout their careers; the RCN (2010) defines this as lifelong learning. Two of the most fundamental contributing areas of learning are clinical placement and theory. Being able to link the two together is an essential skill; this is emphasized by Cope et al (2000). Focusing on these two aspects, this essay is going to explore and analyse the extent of learning in the subject area of personal care and the links to other important factors of nursing.…

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council defines the enrolled nurse (EN) as, an associate to the registered nurse who demonstrates competence in the provision of patient-centred care as specified by the registering authority’s license to practice, educational preparation and context of care (Monash, 2013). As the enrolled nursing is on an on-going learning career, critical thinking, reflection and analysis are vital criteria that a nurse should concern during her duties and studies. Mainly these three points are significant to deliver a quality patient-centred care. Because some nurses that have been learnt these criteria are not applying in their clinical practice. Critical thinking helps ENs to make judgments related to client’s human…

Once we had discharged the patient into the care of the mental health team at a 136 suite I felt exhausted and deflated and concerned. This was due to not knowing whether I should have told the patients that he would end up being sectioned if you did not come with us to hospital. I felt concerned that this patient would lose trust with the ambulance service as I had not been upfront with him, and this might affect him in the future in seeking…

When I think about the thinking’s and writings I did this semester, I feel that I didn’t put much effort and I could have done much better. Overall, I Think I did pretty well following the paragraph formats, which have been at the most helpful when writing, but at times, I fail to pay close attention to what I write when editing, which causes my paper to contradict itself. And the biggest of all, I tend to neglect going back to recheck at times with the rough drafts to subtract the biggest errors that I may have made! This is one of the main things that I have to focus on in order to better myself when writing papers. However, more than just a chance to reflect on what I’ve done this semester, one of the skills I have learned from this class…
