Nursing Case Study Ms. V.

This client, Ms. V, is a twenty nine year old, African-American female, single mother. Client is also the head of her household. Client was referred to a drug treatment program by a health assessor from Social Services for an assessment. The reason for the assessment is to determine if she needs to attend a substance abuse outpatient treatment program. Based on the DSM IV, Ms. V suffers from Cannibal Abuse Disorder 305.20. She was administered the ASAM Admission Evaluation, the Addiction Severity Index (ASI), the Michigan Alcohol Screening Test (MAST), the Drug Abuse Screening Test (DAST), and a Mental Health Symptoms Questionnaire. Ms. V reported that she first used THC at age 13 and last used about a week ago. She admits to using THC even after being told by family member that “she’s using too much”. Ms. V reported that she was smoking due to personal stressors in her life. …show more content…
Her mother (biological, maternal cousin) assisted her at home with learning outside of basic schooling. She is now in a GED program at Prince George's County Community College. Ms. V has a deceased biological mother. Her mother’s cause of death was a stroke while using crack cocaine. She has animosity about the loss of her mother and the lack of information provided to her about her biological mother that keeps her distant from her family. Ms. V is closer to her children than other family members, but believes that her relationship with her children can improve. Her strengths are her independence, ability to provide, and care for her children. Her children and her significant other give her strength. Client enjoys cooking and cleaning her house. Ms. V is very resourceful far as improvising, far as finding temporary services for her household, and food banks to feed her family when food stamps runs out. Client believes in Christianity, so she prays to god, but does not attend
