Situation. I was Mr Richards registered nurse when he was first admitted to the ward, I was responsible for doing the general survey and pain assessment. Jack Richards, 87 years old, the presenting symptoms are a very painful right knee, he describes the pain as shooting on both the front and back. He is having trouble putting any weight on the knee and says it is effecting his sleep and daily activities. Mr Richards has previously been advised that it was arthritic pain that would worsen over time. Mr Richards says he can feel the bones rubbing together.
