The incidence of hospital infections also increase when the patient to nurse ratio is five and above. Not only does having a higher ratio of patients to nurses increase falls and infections, but patients are less likely to rate their hospital stay as a positive one, as well as less likely to recommend the hospital to others ( “Research links”, 2013).
Analysis of Observations and Comparison with the Literature: The article supports my thoughts on the nurse to patient ratio and the affect it has one patient care. Although I do agree with patients being less likely to rate the hospital stay as positive one if the nurse to patient ratio is low, that is not always the case. Patients who are admitted to 5W are still enjoying their hospital stay even with the patient to nurse ratio. There were quite a few patients who remembered specific nurses’ names because they said they had such a great experience with them in the past.
