Nursing Case Study Corey

At 16 years old Corey has a hospital admission record of around 23 times. Corey, originally from Georgia, was born a healthy middle child. Having had previous children his parents knew what to expect and were excited to welcome their new baby boy. After taking some time off of her job to care of the baby Corey’s mother went back work . At this point in time formula has already been introduced into Corey’s diet. Around 8 months old Corey’s health started to change. His mother started to notice the soft spot on his head looked as if it was growing, along with the existence of tooth decay and frequent vomiting. In responses to Corey’s health drastically changing his parents immediately booked an appointment with his doctor. The doctor suggested that the vomiting was from the flu and the teeth decay was from leaving the bottle in his mouth for a long period of time. During this time Corey had only been able to consume baby food because of his frequent vomiting. His stay lasted him three weeks and included being seen by multiple specialists. One of the specialists that happened to be brought in was an allergist. He immediately pointed out the incidence of food allergies and inflammation in his GI tract. In response to this he prescribed a diet consisting of only Neocate. Eventually Corey is released from the hospital. Once back home, he starts speech and physical therapy, along with continuing his consumption of neocate. Per doctor’s requests the family starts to keep a food diary, where they introduce one food at a time into Corey’s diet. Slowly they work their way up to a consistent variation of 5-7 foods.
