Being a nurse requires qualities such as excellent communication skills and compassion, it is critically important to be able to interact with patients, their families and other health professionals working as part of a multi-disciplinary team with the patient at the heart. I gained good communication skills at secondary school where as a peer mediator and cyber-mentor I participated in team challenges and worked together with peers as a group, I subsequently progressed to become a team leader for 2 further years.
