IV. Nursing duties vary depending on the location of the practice in which the nurse is employed. Nurses in hospital and physician office settings usually observe patient charts, take vitals. They also administer medications, start IV’s, and give injections as prescribed by the physician. Hospital nurses also handle the discharge papers and track the patient’s progress. Surgical nurses prepare OR rooms and assistant the surgeon throughout the procedure. OB nurses, continuously monitor the progression of laboring mothers and assist with childbirth.
A. Hours vary for nursing some work eight hour shifts, while others work twelve hour shifts. They work around the clock.
