Four years ago, I could never imagine that I would be pursuing a career as a nurse. After spending 10 years as a financial and operations management professional, my father's health began to take a turn for the worse in 2013. In order to provide him the care he needed, I left my position at Princeton University to be his full-time caregiver. Although watching my father struggle to do basic tasks was difficult, the comfort I obtained from making his life a little easier was well worth the hardship. After serving as my dad's caregiver for two years, another misfortune struck my family. Namely, my husband suffered third degree burns, skin grafts and debridement surgery. Once again, I was tasked with caring for a loved one. In the year following …show more content…
In order to achieve this goal, there are several steps I will complete. One of these steps includes the obtainment of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in the next 14 months. By completing this step, I would be able to pass the National Council Licensure Examination shortly after graduation and begin my career as a nurse. After obtaining my license, I would like to gain hands-on experience working as an RN while beginning my Master's degree in nursing. After completing these objectives, I hope to work in the areas of geriatrics, psychiatry, diabetes management, burn and wound care, and pediatrics. Working within these domains throughout my time as a caregiver has provided me the utmost satisfaction, and I would love nothing more than to spend the rest of my career helping people with similar issues as a Nurse …show more content…
First, I have a Master's degree in Business Administration. I managed to achieve a 3.8 GPA while obtaining this degree, a far cry from the 2.4 GPA that I held at the end of my undergraduate career. In addition, I also have a 4.0 GPA in my science prerequisite courses, and a post-baccalaureate studies GPA of 3.5 for accounting courses. Hopefully, these grades demonstrate that my work ethic and sense of responsibility have improved immensely over the past 20 years. I will continue applying the same determination should I be accepted into this rigorous program. Additionally, the management skills I've learned both from my MBA and experience in financial and operations management will prove to be beneficial both during my studies and throughout my nursing career. These skills will be incredibly valuable when I work with fellow students, patients, families, and medical
