Nursing Career Path

The career path that I have chosen for myself is nursing. I have been interested in the health field in the terms of a career since I was in my teens however could never pin point what area that I wanted to get into. I first started to think about becoming a nurse when working as a first aid officer at a secondary college. I quickly realised that working in the first aid room had become my favourite part of my job and that I was constantly searching for more information and training that could build upon my current knowledge. I found I love being able to help others and be the calm presence when people are upset or worried. I have never been one to be fazed by blood or vomit or the things people typically turn away from. I have had many chances to build on my communication skills through my clinical placements that I undertake multiple times through my degree as well as working in an administration role at my current job. Rapport building is vital to be able to provide comprehensive care to patients. A skill I use everyday at work when children come into sickbay. Effective hand hygiene is important especially for anyone working in a healthcare setting to stop the spread of infection. A skill we use in every clinical class, on placement and that has been implemented into my daily life. To ensure the safety of patient’s, nurses must have a good understanding of correct medication management. Serious adverse effects can occur when this isn’t correctly undertaken. In nursing classes and simulations, we always ensure we can correctly identify and use the accurate procedures when administering medications. Finally, time management is utilised in many careers however for nursing it critical that you can effectively manage your times so all patients receive the care the require. This is a skill I currently use in my current employment however, I also use it in my degree to ensure I am meeting all my class assignments on
