Nursing Care Registered Nurse Essay

A current major healthcare problem in the United States is the lethal combination of medical error and patient neglect. Medical mistakes are the third leading cause of death nationwide and are responsible for over 400,000 deaths annually. A major contributor to these errors is understaffing. A shortage of hospital workers, nurses in particular, can be detrimental to patient care. Patients are dependent upon being treated in a timely fashion, along with the absolute best care possible. Nurses help do just this. They are the first line of defense when a patient enters the hospital, and are in charge of taking a detailed and accurate medical history and performing the preliminary exam. This is a crucial part in diagnosing and treating patients and helps to increase efficiency in the hospital so doctors may tend to more patients. Nurses are able to give input and reduce the workload put on doctors, helping to eliminate inadvertent errors. Following the completion of my nursing degree I plan to become a Critical Care Registered Nurse. I am comfortable with making immediate decisions, with no hesitation, and am quick on my feet. I am able to rationalize situations and take emotion out of the equation if need be so. In addition to this, I know when to be compassionate and provide education, without telling the patients what to do. I plan to to work in a hospital with either a large ICU or Emergency Room, and intend go where I am needed the most. Whether it be treating patients, administering medication, making difficult split or just simply observing, I have a passion for helping others and furthering my education through hands on experience and cannot think of anything I would rather
