Nursing And Spanish Personal Statement

Decent Essays
I intend on majoring in Nursing and Spanish. My hope is that, after a few years of gaining nursing experience domestically, I can become a traveling nurse and care for patients across the globe. I think this career path would bring amazing opportunities and expand my horizons. My choice to study Nursing and Spanish comes from the time that I spent living in Guatemala during the summers of 2015 and 2016. I saw a great need for medical professionals in rural areas. My senior project was on the healthcare issue in Guatemala and surrounding Latin countries, where I immediately saw a trend in lack of services available to patients seeking medical attention. I was so impacted by my time spent abroad that this led me to want to integrate my passions—caring

After acquiring the medical knowledge I hope to transform this organization into one that operates medical facilities within highly underserved communities starting in the U.S and branched out abroad. The most recent medical brigade trip sponsored by the organization was a scheduled three weeks in Haiti, helped provide basic medical care and education to the underserved communities of “Cotes-de-Fer” and “Petit Goave.” The experience was eye opening in the sense that it helps me understand some of the logistics that are required to render a minimal level of care. That experience is unique from the position of working as a medic because we have not just provided care, but were deeply involved with the local population daily routine. That level of involvement helps us to properly educate the locals on the importance of hygiene and disease prevention.…

Every day you meet patients of various backgrounds who create a positive impression that can last for a lifetime. Half of my childhood was spent observing my mother take care of my sick grandmother who was suffering from liver cirrhosis. As I grew up watching my mother nurse my sick grandmother, the value of compassion, love, and respect for the sick has been instilled in me. Many people in America are lacking adequate health-care even with Medicaid and Medicare. Due to lack of government funding, the quality of care is debased while the quantity of patients seen per day is given greater priority.…

Nursing is often referred as the art and science of person centered care, that's why Indiana University is the school that will help me meet my goals of being a Registered Nurse. With a bachelor's degree in nursing that will help me excel in critical thinking and use the skills I learned from Indiana University everyday in my line of work. I will be majoring in Nursing reason being that nursing is a special skill that you learn the overall concept from books and class, but it's not universal for all people that's the reason it's a person centered care and nursing is individualized to a specific person and taking care of their overall needs being physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs in their way to recovery and health. In addition to my academic goals at Indiana University, I plan on pursuing activities and clubs related to my interests and to be an active member on campus and to form friendships with others that have…
