Nursing And Evidence Based Nursing

Decent Essays
In this discussion board post, I will be defining both research in nursing and evidence-based nursing. An example of each definition will be given, as well as, a sample research question and a sample clinical question.
Finding solutions and answers to nursing questions or wonders by means of using the scientific process is the definition of research in nursing. Research in nursing is important to make sure patients are receiving the highest level of care possible. (LoBiondo-Wood & Haber, 2014). Researching wound vacuum devices on postoperative cesarean section patients having an improvement in wound healing time is an example of research in nursing. There are various evidence-based practice (EBP) models that are most commonly used in the field of nursing. These EBP models include Funk’s Model of Research Dissemination, Stetler’s Model of Research Utilization and Evidence-Based Practice, DiCenso et al. Model, The Iowa Model, Rosswurm and Larrabee Model, The ARCC Model, and Kitson’s Framework. The similarity across the Stetler’s, DiCenso et al., Iowa, and Rosswurm and Larrabee Model is that the basic steps or phases involved in the model is same. For instance: the first step in these models involves the identification of the problem in a clinical practice; next step is to conduct literature search, gather evidences from research, and compare it to current practice; then the decision is made…

Determining the strength of a nursing research study is a critical process that enhances the implementation of evidence-based practice. Determining the strength of a nursing research study ensures that the empirical knowledge developed through nursing research is useful in improving nursing care, the system of healthcare delivery, and patient outcomes. Additionally, nurses should use research findings when making clinical decisions on the best practice to use in order to deliver healthcare services that ensure all the patients receive safe and quality care (Melnyk et al. 2014). Therefore, determining the strength of a nursing research study helps to ensure the evidence is credible (valid and reliable) and is appropriate if incorporated into clinical practice.…

1)Research is different from clinical problem solving in that research is a systematic process by which new knowledge is discovered through the gathering of data and information from different sources(Fain, 2013). In addition, research is also done to support knowledge that already exists based on a theory to build on or improve the information that already exists. This can be knowledge that is directly applied to our practice or knowledge that needs further validation before application (Fitzpatrick, 2016). On the other hand, clinical problem solving is utilizing current knowledge to improve patient health. One of the most popular tools used by nurses in clinical problem solving is the nursing process.…

This new knowledge can then be used to directly and indirectly influence the delivery of evidence based nursing to link up to date research to practice (Burns and Grove, 2009). Linking research to practice provides what is known as evidence based research (Burns and Grove, 2009). Research is a scientific process that it designed to validate and refine pre-existing knowledge, and thus generates new knowledge can directly, and indirectly, influence the delivery of nursing practice (Burns and Grove, 2009). The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC, 2015) code states that: All qualified nurses have a duty and responsibility to ensure their practice is in line with the best available evidence to ensure that the care given is safe and effective. As we know that there is a relationship between research and practice it is imperative that nurses know what research qualifies any method that they have to put into practice In order to individualize patients’ needs instead of generalize care. What makes research so credible is because experiments are used to conclude any theories that scientists put in study. Different experiments must be performed in order to achieve the best evidence of a theory. Therefore, it is important for nurses to update their knowledge by always informing themselves about any current new researches.…

First, nursing has always used research findings to support data collection, to suggest interventions and evaluate the quality and growth of patient care. This method is called research utilization (Spector, 2008). In research utilization, the different results from the studies are conveniently selected for the application in nursing practice. For evidence based research, the nurses will select the best evidence from the research, the results are analysed, synthesized and then integrated into practice (Spector, 2008, p.…

The nursing research article that I chose to critic for this assignment is entitled "The nurse work environment, job satisfaction and turnover rates in rural and urban nursing units" written by Marianne Baernholdt and Barbara A. Mark. The goal of this publication is to determine if there is a relationship between the nurse work environment and the level of satisfaction and the rate of nurses ' turnover. Urban hospitals have been the subject of research to examine this association but not rural hospitals, thus the subject of this research article. This article poses the problem of whether or not the environments in which nurses evolve and their job satisfaction level have an effect on turnover rates.…
