What was your biggest challenge that was non-skill-related?
Was caring for a patient who weighed over 350 lbs. and she was incontinent of bowel and bladder. We had to change her bed pad every 2 hours which took a lot of time, especially since I had 2 other patients to care for.
What did you do to meet the challenge?
I kept changing the bed pad every two hours to reduce her risk for infection, because she also had a stage II pelvic ulcer and Stage III sacral ulcer. I cleaned her with soap and water each time and applied pro-shield cream on her lower back.
What’s the one thing you’d do differently related to your performance?

One of my patient cried and thanked me for caring for him. He asked if he could attend my graduation. He made me cry, because he really touched my heart. That moment was validating that nursing is definitely a career for me. When he arrived to the unit he was nonverbal, but that next day he only verbally talked to me. Each day, I was able to help him improve and get discharged. Moreover, my other patient was this 78-year-old woman and she told me that she didn’t trust anyone but me. She had multiple anxiety episodes and I would take the time out to listen to her. She said she feels less anxious when I check on her and smile. Overall, it was a blessing to see these two patients discharged and I was able provide a sense of security and comfort throughout their stay on the
