Nurses are there to care, heal, be culturally competent, advocate and create a nurse-patient relationship. The inability of nurses to administer appropriate care and higher patient-to-nurse ratios lead to nurse burnout and dissatisfaction (Homburg, Heijden, & Valkenburg, 2013). Unfortunately, many nurses leave the profession that they love because they are dissatisfied with the work environment in which they work. Annual turnover in acute care hospitals is currently 17.1% in 2015, a slight decrease from 17.2% in 2014 (Nursing Solutions Inc., 2016). RNs working in pediatrics recorded the lowest turnover rate of 11.7%. The turnover rate for bedside RNs increased to 17.2% in 2015, up from 16.4% in 2014.
