She is responsible for the critical pathway, the patients, as well all the member within the team. As a leader she needs to inspire and motivate her team to create positive patient outcomes (Elwell, 2015). Nurse Witte should first attempt to communicate with all members of the team to work out these problems. If she is unable communicate and resolve these problems such as the providers unwilling to collaborate she needs to follow that chain of command and report the issues. Management may have to step in and help create a solution that will be accepted by both parties. Interpersonal communication is the mode of communication they should be using. Group members should use face to face communication so that all parties are aware of each other; sending and receiving information while continuing to adapt to each other (Huber, 2014). Verbal communication should also be used including written and spoken information. Having various viewpoints in the decision-making process and differences of opinions can affect understanding of the situation. (Lancaster, Kolakowsky-Hayner, & Greer-Williams, 2015). Many of us are busy and do not have time to sit though hours and hours of meetings or read numerous articles to try and understand where she is wanting us to be. If she spells out her message clear and concise there would not be room misinterpretations. Nurse Witte should first communicate with the physicians who are not cooperating. Finding a solution to the conflict can help the project move forward and ensure all members of the healthcare team are playing the part. Everyone involved in the care should be included in the communication; this includes the patient, the family, nurses, physicians, aides, respiratory therapy, dietitians, and any other individuals involved in the care of this particular patient. A clear agenda should be made ensuring no confusion about the direction to go with the patient’s plan of care; all team members into the onboard and actively participate to provide the patient with the best possible care. Leaders are not always in management and management are not necessarily leaders. A manager’s role is to plan, organize, and coordinate, while it is up to the leader’s to inspire and motivate their team members (Elwell, 2015). Nurse Witte will have to develop a plan to a critical pathway for ventilator dependent patient. Next she have to organize her team members and information in order to put a plan into play.
