Forecasts indicate that Florida will face a shortage of Healthcare practitioners by 2025 that is capable of crippling the state’s healthcare system and reducing access to care for the people of the state. The Florida’s demand for nursing personnel is projected to increase radically as the state’s Baby Boom population reaches the retirement ages and begins to require inclusive care for age-related conditions. There will arise a need for more nurses as healthcare reform increases the demand for more services.
Additionally, the community is also concerned that within the next 10 years more than 40 percent of Florida's nurses are approaching retirement age and there are not enough younger nurses to replace them. Therefore, resolving Florida's nursing shortage will require a policy framework that aims at interventions that increase the production of new nurses, redesign work to accommodate the aging nurse workforce, and improve the work environment to retain existing
