I have always had a certain obsession with organizing. Arranging important documents into vanilla folders and double-checking labels to make sure I filed them correctly. For example, I would chronologically sort the memories of a bad college relationship into mental file cabinets “2006, 2007, and 2009,” in cerebral folders “R,” respectively. Maybe “R” stood for “reasoning.” According to me, there was no other effective way to deal with life.…
Literature Review Related to The Nurse Residency Program (NRP) at Meridian Healthcare System: Transition from Novice to Expert Evidence-Based Literature For the new graduate nurses, the initial years of employment are an important period that determines whether they will transition from being a novice nurse to being an expert, or even a competent staff nurse. This period is also characterized by adjustment or high stress, which are factors that determine whether an individual will quit or remain entirely in the nursing profession (Berman, Johnson & West, 2014). Most new graduate nursing students experience a feeling of shock, immediately after they face the reality of their expectations not being met (Gopan, 2015). In addition, many challenges…

After watching the four Texas Nurses Association (TNA) videos, I believe there are several necessities that should be accomplished in order to develop a professional level of Nurse Practitioner. First, is becoming involved with a professional association, second is becoming conscious of health policy, and thirdly is becoming engaged in health policy. Without these actions, the Nurse Practitioner is performing at a basic level and will not thrive at the professional level. The first priority is to join, if not already a member, a professional organization like the TNA.…

I have known since the beginning of high school that I wanted to major in nursing in college. At first, I figured I would go to a larger school where the nursing program does not start until students enter their junior year, however, after I was exposed to the nursing profession through volunteering at St. Louis Children's Hospital, I decided I couldn't wait to get started. I learned how much compassion and wisdom nurses carried with them, and I realized that I couldn't imagine myself doing anything else. This thought is what initially drew me into Truman State University, as I loved the idea of entering the nursing program my very first semester on campus. I am certain Truman will prepare me to achieve my career goal of becoming a pediatric oncology nurse.…
On Friday, April 15th, 2016, at 5:15 P.M, I conducted a phone interview with Brittney Schaub, RN. While conducting the interview, I learned that she graduated from Broward College in 2013, and went on to become an ER Nurse at Plantation General Hospital and eventually at Palms West Hospital. “I’ve always known I wanted to be a nurse, because my mom was a nurse, and growing up, I admired her so much,” she said. “I admired how hard she worked… It’s definitely not an easy job, but it is a very rewarding job.”…
Nursing is the profession of caring. Many prospective students set their goals towards pursuing a career in this field of healing because they do, in fact, want to assist people in their journey of growth with precise and trusting care. Though their intentions are pure and genuine, an aspect that some aspiring nursing students may not consider is that many, if not a majority, of their patients in need of care will not be of paramount condition. Instead, their path of healing entails a multitude of barriers and obstacles for their care in such a fragile state. With physical and emotional vulnerability…
I’ve always had different ideas for a future career path, but as I get older the options slim because I’m figuring out my passions in life. Last year, I decided to take a leap and apply to Pre-Nursing. I’m from High Point, NC and I attended Wesleyan Christian Academy. I am very fortunate for my parents sacrificing to pay for my education at Wesleyan because it is a college preparatory school. Wesleyan has prepared me for college in many ways that I am so thankful for.…
I was born and lived in San Jose, California up to the age of thirteen years old. Right before high school my parents decided to relocate to Modesto, California. While living in Modesto, my mother was diagnosed with diabetes. I remember how it was difficult to watch my mother go through the symptoms of diabetes. She was losing weight, she was always tired and her vision started to deteriorate.…
Nurses play an essential role in the healthcare business, providing care to patients and filling leadership roles at various hospitals, health systems and other organizations. On a beautiful Wednesday afternoon after school, I was able to take a peek into my future. I have always been excited to become a nurse since I decided that this will be my major, and on that Wednesday I was able to experience this first hand. At my mother’s work, Behavioral Healthcare Partners, I was lucky enough to be sent to work in their medical office. Not only did I have an unbelieveable mixture of nerves and excitement during this experience, but I also learned a lot my first, second, and third day here working in the medical department. I felt my heart racing as I entered the medical building at Behavioral Healthcare Partners as I was about to see what the rest of my life may be centered around.…
As a future nurse educator I look forward to teaching college students. I picture myself teaching students the basics of nursing. I hope that I have a good mentor as I enter this field. I noticed this theme in my reading and feel that this would be a plus to my learning how to approach the students. I also feel that I am wise enough to realize that I am one who knows that she does not know it all, I am willing to help a student know where to find it.…
