As an aspiring nurse, my job will consist of constantly caring for people around the clock in a positive and sympathetic way while efficiently taking care of their health care needs. It takes a certain type of altruistic person to become a nurse, and I believe I am the one. In high school, I began volunteering at LaRabida Children’s Hospital in Chicago where the children have chronic illnesses, developmental disabilities, abuse, and trauma issues. For instance, I passed by a little boy’s room who was hopelessly crying. I went into the room and played with the child. When I left, he was smiling from ear to ear. This has affected me by having a positive impact on my life. I have gained self-esteem and confidence in myself knowing that I am able to help someone who I do not know and impact their lives in a positive manner. Volunteering has been a heartwarming experience for me. Since I was young, I have always cared for others and put others before myself. For Mother’s Day, I participated in a community service project that included a partnership with a women’s and children’s shelter. I was I was partnered with a child that had physical disabilities and special needs. Our project was to create personalized items for her to give to her mom. It took us a while to complete the project, but overall it was a great experience working
