Discussion Question 1 1. When we consider what types of patients may use the service of a nurse practitioner, instead of a physician, I think it needs to be evaluated on the needs and health of the patient looking for service. More nurse practitioners are being integrated into the healthcare system, in order to assist with a primary care physician shortage. The nurses who have completed extra schooling for this position of a nurse practitioner, are familiar with many of the circumstances that can present in an office or an urgent care facility on a day to day basis (Knickman & Kovner, A., 2015). I have seen nurse practitioners for everyday concerns, like an earache and I did not have any reservations that she was not a physician.…

As a student, it is common to have excitement, and then later realising that one is not ready for the responsibility and heavy workloads of a registered nurse (Parker et al., 2014; Wolff et al., 2010). It is also essential to either attend a meeting, training, or workshops offered during the transition practice to increase knowledge and understanding of the role of a registered nurse (Burton & Ormrod, 2011; Chang & Daly, 2015). The new graduate nurses also need an initiative and support not only from having an orientation package that usually focuses on patient and drug protocols, hospital and ward structure but also having mentors and a conducive working environment for better practice (Bjerknes & Bjork, 2012; Cherry & Jacob, 2013). All these play a part in preparing graduate nurses to effectively practice after qualifying as registered nurses and relate what they learned in school to the nursing reality, thus preventing them from the reality shock when it comes to balancing their personal and professional lifestyles (Chang & Daly, 2015; Higgins et al., 2010; Spector et al.…

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council defines the enrolled nurse (EN) as, an associate to the registered nurse who demonstrates competence in the provision of patient-centred care as specified by the registering authority’s license to practice, educational preparation and context of care (Monash, 2013). As the enrolled nursing is on an on-going learning career, critical thinking, reflection and analysis are vital criteria that a nurse should concern during her duties and studies. Mainly these three points are significant to deliver a quality patient-centred care. Because some nurses that have been learnt these criteria are not applying in their clinical practice.
