I am a committed and motivated person with significant and relevant experiences seeking an opportunity to realise my dream of becoming a nurse. Firstly, I have had a frontline role of caring for my chronic ill daughter who spent eight months in hospital. During this period, I gained substantial insight into children’s health whilst caring for my daughter. I was trained to administer Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), care and management of a Hickman line and a gastrostomy. This testing period of my life made me realised how dedicated and hardworking nurses were in delivery of care to the sick and the most vulnerable. In particular, the way the nurses managed challenges associated with their jobs was inspiring.
Secondly, I have had experiences of working as a Health Care Assistant, both in residential and nursing home settings for the elderly. As an HCA, my roles include promoting the health and independence of residents, maintaining individuality, privacy and confidentiality. As part of the programme, I successfully completed two practice placements, where I applied theoretical knowledge of psychology and effective communication to the children I worked with. I remain confident that this experience will help me in the nursing study as well as practice. At work, I am currently enrolled on NVQ Level 3 (Health and social care). Furthermore, I enrolled in an Access to Higher Education Diploma course (Health Science Professions) and have studied units such as the nervous system, endocrine system, the urinary system and psychological disorders and therapeutic strategies which has broadened my knowledge and understanding of how the human body and mind function. I have written assignments on these units and this has given me an insight into what to expect in studying nursing in the
