In the situation given, I would first contact on physician and inform him/her that the patient received a double dose of the sliding scale insulin. Furthermore, I would inform the doctor of the patient’s current blood sugar, that the patient is asymptomatic, and await orders if there are any. Second, I would notify my nurse manager and provide him/her with the same information as the physician. Third, I would fill out an incident report about the medication error.
