Studies have shown that most nurse leaders identify leadership qualities and characteristics that began early in their childhood (McCloughen, O’brien, & Jackson, 2014). Life experiences have the ability to impact significantly, shape, and mold nurse leaders and their nursing careers (McCloughen et al., 2014). The leadership characteristics of a nurse leader include stamina, confident, expert clinician, visionary, selflessness, innovative, dynamism, assertive, and a mentor (Davidson & Sindhu, 2014). Furthermore, being a leader infers that the individual is a visionary that directs and shapes clinical practice (Davidson & Sindhu, 2014).
