The first is the option of doing coronary artery bypass surgery that provides an 80% chance of getting rid of the patient’s angina (Munson, 2012, p. 726). One example of nursing case law is Utter v. United Hospital Center Inc. (1977). This case confirmed that nurses were expected to prevent harm when caring for patients based on their independent judgments. However, according to this case a patient’s arm showed signs of compartment syndrome and nurses failed to request re-evaulation when the primary providers did not correctly address the patients limb. Another example of nurse case law is Rowe v. Sisters of Pallottine Missionary Society (2001). During my attendance to the Seattle Children’s Hospital Nursing Camp, I job shadowed multiple Registered Nurses in the Cancer Care Unit, Medical Floor, Operating Room, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. In each department, I was able to observe the daily tasks of a nurse and how they interact with different patients. Not only did I job shadow nurses, but I also learned how to different procedures, such as: how to replace a trachea device, take blood pressures, insert feeding tubes, and how to inject vitamins and foods into feeding tubes. Through this, I assured myself that I really wanted to be a nurse.…

Many nurses are faced with ethical and legal dilemmas constantly in the health care setting. This clinical rotation was interesting to find out about the population health and dynamics of Danbury and the surrounding cities. During the past five weeks, I have encountered many different diseases, people, environments, and professions in nursing that gave me a broader idea of what community nursing truly is. I got to experience four weeks first hand with two different visiting nurses in the Fairfield and Danbury area and one week with the Health Department going on health inspections at two different places. With this, I give you my reflection of what my experience has been so far in this semester. My first week with the Western Connecticut Home Care was exciting to be oriented with the administration and getting an overall picture of what to expect in visiting nursing.…
