I thought your critique was well-done and easy to understand and read. You did a great job of explaining each of your points in a clear, concise way. I agree that your article was harder to read, in that, there was a lot going on in regard to the detail of the framework. Your study was quantitative in nature and mine was a mixed-methods study, so that was a difference I noted. Obviously, the frameworks were different for our studies as well. Your article had a clear model that was referenced in your article, where mine did not jump out of me as fast. Now looking back at my article, I can see it more clearly.
You noted that you were not able to find any other information of the Model of Nurse Empowerment, so that is where my response is going to mainly focus. When I read articles, I tend to always look at where the information came from in the background. Sure enough, a picture of the model is listed in their research on pg. 670. The model's core is the constant cycle of environmental events, task assessments, and behavior (Thomas & Velthouse, 1990). The article gives a very thorough explanation of each area within the model. These areas include the three already mentioned along with global assessments, interpretive styles, and interventions (Thomas & Velthouse, 1990). The authors talk about the model focusing on the intrinsic task motivation within each worker, compared to earlier research that only focused on external conditions or events outside of the individual (Thomas & Velthouse, 1990).
