Delegation is not just a management tool we often see used in the medical field; it is the transfer of a responability or task from one individual to another, it is a two way process and the delegating personal remains accountably for the outcome (Cherry & Jacob, 2014). Proper delegation can improve the quality of care provided and insure that all needs of the client are meet (Kærnested & Bragadóttir, 2012).It is important that nurses master the skill of delegating. Today’s health care industry wants to provide more cost effective care with a focus on safety and quality (Cherry & Jacob, 2014). The nurse can delegate any aspect of patient care to another RN. Many of the delegated tasks you delegate to another RN require no supervision. Such as, the charge nurse assigning patients to a RN. She does not go behind the RN to ensure that the patients care was correctly done.
