A Nurse Anesthetist is an advanced practice nurse who distributes anesthesia to patients before surgery. These kinds of Nurses need to be specially trained and must be prepared to work in a wide variety of situations. This is also why they are the most in-demand, and highest-paid nurses. To become a Nurse Anesthetist you must get your Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Then you must pass the National Council Licensing Exam to obtain your Nursing license. You must work in a critical care nursing field for at least one year to be able to get your master’s degree. A strong experience in critical care nursing is key to admittance and achievement in the program. Depending on different state laws, CRNAs practice with varying levels of independence, ranging from no supervision required to direct supervision by a physician being required. A master's degree program in nurse anesthesia requires a minimum of 27 months of full-time attendance.
