1. Growing up, for volunteer and community service work I always went to the animal shelter and helped walk dogs. When I got old enough to do volunteer work myself, I began volunteering at Brookhill Farm in Forest, Virginia. At the barn, I would exercise my horse, groom, clean out stalls, help with feeding, and anything else they needed. Even though this was just with animals, I still learned how to treat the horses and people I was around with respect and care. In high school, I was also a part of Key Club which is a club devoted to community service. In this club, we would help donate money for organizations, help our school with different activities, and raise awareness for many issues in our nation and around the world. I have also helped my grandfather in West Virginia who has Parkinson’s disease. Even though this was family related, I still found what it meant to put others in front of myself and the true meaning of volunteering to do a hard job. I may be the only person that can make a difference in someone’s life so it is important that I try to make a positive impact on anyone I would come in contact with. After dealing with my grandfather and grandmother, I have realized how important it is to give patient’s the proper care. I want to take care of others and be their shelter when they have none. After my grandparents struggle with getting the right care, it is has imprinted on my heart a love and need to at least give this to someone else. Patients are obviously in a facility for a reason, so I would always try and remember this and realize that they are going through a hard

Doctor dolls and silicone stethoscopes created my childhood dream of becoming a physician, but nothing fortified my goals more than the sensations that shot through my nerves as I held an infant for the first time. I see obstetricians as the physicians that bring life or death to the table, and I am willing to hold that pressure on my shoulders. When the present appears dark and the future is looking grey, I will be the doctor who will help women bring an indubitable bundle of joy into the world. Obstetrics requires twelve years of collegiate education, and I see the next twelve years as a long-lasting gift rather than a burden.…

My personal experience with community service is very limited. Through my church group and my school we would serve meals at the homeless shelter various times during the year. We would be at the shelter for increments of five hours at a time. Two hours were allotted to prepare parts of the meal, another two were used for serving food, and the last hour was used for cleaning up the kitchen and dining area. The only other community service I have done was through my high school Science Club; we would walk around the neighborhood and pick up garbage.…
