Writing a reflection on a completed course, a recent commitment, or just a note written at the end of the day, leads us to awareness and helps us to think carefully about our own experiences and actions. These reflections are as unique as those who create them. NUR 495, “Public and Global Health in Nursing”, has provided numerous topics and activities for reflection and practice integration, a sampling of which are discussed here. As a nurse in my current practice (I am a Level II NICU nurse), two topics caught my interest in this class. First, as much as we attempt to develop global, or even regional, health policies, their true test comes from basic grass roots efforts, affecting one community, or even one family, at a time. It is up to the boots on the ground to carry out the noble work set forth by large organizations, just as I am tasked with individual and personal care delivery in my unit. Second, as much as global health policies can affect entire populations, one must always consider how to do so economically and cost effectively. First, one must save their set of slides as a set of individual .JPG files. Next, while adequately providing the personal touch of a video presentation, one is forced to record the entire presentation in one sitting, and then add slides where appropriate. In actuality, one typically develops the slides for a presentation first, then adds narrative addressing each of the slides. VoiceThread is, comparatively, a more intuitive application in this respect. Simply allowing the presenter to record their video presentation in segments would make YouSeeU a more effective platform.
