Lois Lowry is a is a wonderful author who wrote books based on life experiences and stories. Two of the many books that she wrote were Number the Stars and Crow Call. Both stories are written about events in her life. The two books and many of her other books also bear a very powerful message to all of the readers. The message is, “the vital need for humans to be aware of their interdependence.” In essence, Lois and other authors use real-life experiences to create stories.
Lois Ann Hammersberg was born on March 20, 1937, in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was a shy and introverted girl who loved to read. She decided to be a writer at 8 or 9. Writing was her favorite subject in school. Her father was a dentist and an Army officer. Number the stars is about two girls, AnnMarie and her friend Ellen, who live in Copenhagen, Denmark. The story takes place during world war II when the nazis relocated jews, Ellen was a jew and her family had the help of AnnMarie to escape to Sweden, a safe place. The book was based on Annalise Platt and her stories. Annalise, a good friend of Lois, lived in Denmark during WWII told Lois about real-life experiences.
