Knowing the difference between a good painting and a bad painting is very difficult, even for an expert. I believe that the paintings should not be precise or real, maybe for some painters it is, in my opinion an artistic creation must be unique, that arises with the purpose of transmitting something special. A good work of art is the one that is difficult to forget, it is as if you enter a gallery full of paintings, and when you finish seeing them all, only a few are engraved in your memory, those that managed to capture your attention, arousing feelings and emotions. That is the painting that is worth admiring. But if I am in front of a painting that does not inspire me, there is no point in admiring it. I still find it difficult to appreciate the paintings in detail, some are very complex, try to understand the designs, color lines, space and shape, it is challenging for someone who does not know much about art. …show more content…
The first thing I think of is the title of the painting, but where is the staircase, or where is the nude, a woman or a man? I am lost and confused with this painting, is this a work of art? With all the respect to the painter, this for me is very similar to a harvest of corn. Perhaps, if Dutchman had changed the title of his work of art, this painting would have another meaning. I watched some videos that tried to explain the painting, saying that here were the legs, the torso, or the head. Even so, I cannot find any meaning to the painting. Jacob Lawrence's paintings are very easy to interpret, the title of the painting, the forms and colors make the painting speak for itself. The painter is able to portray in his best opinion about the daily life of the community. This would be a good subject because its base on immigration

Art isn’t about what you can depict from it, but how it makes you feel as you gaze upon it. Recently I went on an excursion to MOCA, Museum Of Contemporary Arts, located in North Miami, Fl. The temporary exhibit is “Beijing Booster” the works of Peter Wayne Lewis. The exhibit is showcasing 30-40 pieces of artwork. Of course some peak more interest than others; nevertheless Peter Wayne Lewis energy is definitely projected in the galleries.…

Art is a subjective matter. As I learned in AP Art History, what might be ugly to one person is beautiful to another. Art is also an easy skill to pick up. Anyone who is able to write is also able to draw and paint. It is a matter of diligence, motivation and passion for art that differentiates the average Joe from the next Michelangelo.…

Art comes in many different forms whether it’s sculptures, canvas, vases, or mosaics and can have different meanings to different people and that’s where the beauty of art comes in. When visiting museums, you get to see that there are absolutely no boundaries for what is considered art and it can be very inspiring. During my visit at the Morse museum I saw many interesting pieces but a handful of them really caught my attention and stood out. There was one interesting piece I saw under the title Reverie by John Brown which is an oil on canvas. This particular art piece caught my eye because it was so smooth in appearance compared to other works around it and had small details that came together to picture a young American women sitting on a…

The Love of Art written by Bourdieu, Darbel, and Schnapper, share that rather than just having a taste for the art through a learned culture, people “should be capable of creating natural preferences by their own power” (Bourdieu, 2). When I read the statement made by Bourdieu, “how individuals throughout history have had vague understandings of art that they admire”. As an artist, I did not agree with his statement. I believe everyone can admire art in the way the artwork is speaking to them. The admirer may know and understand what the artist was trying to portray in their work, yet they may feel a totally different understanding than what the artist was trying to say.…

America was shocked to see this painting because they had not seen anything similar to the painting. American art schools were teaching realistic paintings and the Association of American Painters and Sculptors (AAPS) were tired so people traveled to europe to get ideas. One of the most outrageous painting they saw was from the artist Marcel Duchamp’s painting called “Nude descending a Staircase, No.2 “. “Audiences and critics were outraged by what they saw in the cubist room” The painting was so different from other it blew their minds away. Even the President of the United States was outraged and shocked “Former President Theodore Roosevelt visited the show and later called Duchamp’s painting “repellent from every standpoint””…

Throughout the course of human civilizations, people have turned to art as a form of expression for emotions, events, and representation of people and places. These works come in different forms such as paintings, theatre, literature and architecture. Many of these great works are preserved for future generations, while others are destroyed over time. Out of all artworks that have been created the best and most deserving of preservation are The Mona Lisa, Everyman, The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Roman Colosseum. These four “best of the best” works express a multitude of cultural significance, symbolism and they each express an idea that can resonate with and prevail throughout present and future generations.…

The work made by Marcel Duchamp was considered scandalous in 1913 maybe because cubism is used to express the artist’s opinion or point of view on something, and since Duchamp painted “Nude Descending a Staircase, No. 2”, they might’ve thought that his point of view in a woman walking downstairs is her having to be nude. “In Cubism, artists show their subjects from several points of view at the same time.” (Scholastic 4) This being said, maybe Duchamp didn’t actually show his work in more than one point of view. In other terms.…

Max Ernst’s artwork and the 3-D technique Have you even visited a museum of art such as Whitney Museum of American Art or Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) that displays work of arts such as paintings, photographs or sculptures from all around the world and from different artists? I personally visited the MoMA and as I was looking around I saw lots of paintings and sculptures, but the one caught my attention was the three-dimensional painting by the artist named Max Ernst called Two Children Are Threatened by a Nightingale dated ca. 1924, made in oil on wood with painted wood elements and frame. The painting caught my attention because it is two in one picture, what I mean is this art was made as regular picture using color and brush than Ernst…

Museum Overview for the Minneapolis Institute of Art Before registering for this class, I reviewed the course description and saw that there was a field trip to the museum and was immediately excited. Although I have visited the Minneapolis Institute of Art before, it was over twenty years ago and I don’t remember much from that visit. From this class, I felt I was well prepared as what to expect, museum etiquette and what I needed to do while I was there to gather information needed to write this paper. Aside from the logistics, I was anxious to see in person, works of art from the great artists such as Monet and Van Gogh. When we arrived outside of the Museum I remember thinking that it was much larger than I recalled.…

Argueing over a single analysis of art, to me, is outrageous. I agree with Oscar Wilde in believing that “[a]ll art is quite useless”—useless in the sense that it is meaningless (Preface). There are 7 billion people living in this world. Everyone will understand a piece of…

Even though this was my first trip to the Museum of Fine Arts and second to any art museum, I could tell that it was a unique place. After walking through the thick, futuristic glass doors into the first exhibit, I was awestruck with the sheer amount of paintings on displays. In all directions, there were hundreds of paintings lining the walls. Even though there are so many paintings, each one was aesthetically pleasing and representative of mastery in the craft. Surprisingly, after taking a closer look at each painting, I realized beauty cannot be contingent only on superficial aesthetics.…

While I have not visited many famous works of art, I have been to a various small art exhibitions, where the artists walk freely among their fans and the paintings lack any bulletproof glass. While the technique and dedication invested into the paintings were impressive, the meanings of the paintings were self-evident a majority of the time, perhaps because I was not looking at the qualities that made it genuine. Would I be able to say the same if I were looking at a famous work of art such as “Virgin of the Rocks”? It is difficult to guess just sitting here in front of a computer screen, but I would have to wager that indeed, I would be thinking about how the “real” painting I am standing in front of is likely worth more than an average person’s house. The ridiculous value of the vast majority of artwork is a truly a testament to the fact that the rarity of the painting has superceded the vision of the original artist.…

    Meaning Of Art In America

Art must have reason to why even create it, either to tell a story, to stand up for something, or to just simply change up the art “game”. Not having meaning to something you do, is like not having wheels for your car, in the end you are not going to go anywhere or accomplish anything. Art also must have that wow factor, to where just walking by something I will do a double take to see what it was. Lastly, what matters most to me, is that art must be able to bring people together. Bringing people together is what makes things happen and hopefully also bring a change.…

The world of artistry is wrought with misinformation and misdirection. Some would have you believe that art is hard and takes years of practice to master. However, those people are wrong, and you should feel bad for believing them. While the actual skills involved in painting might require some expertise, you don’t really need to be good at it to be an artist. One of the finest pieces of “abstract expressionism” is literally just four, dark lines on a red background (seriously, it’s called Four Darks in Red, and it’s considered a masterpiece of the 20th century).…

Have you ever looked at a piece of art that’s hanging on your wall and thought, “What is it trying to say?” or “What was the artist’s purpose on that particular painting or drawing?” I think once in a while we should run our imagination wild and think sociologically. Well, a piece of artwork is more than a decoration, an artifact, or an interment. Art is a sentimental action of emotion that is presented in someway.…
