Nucor was founded in 1904 but then it was named as REO. Then after buying the nuclear company it changed its name to Nuclear Corporation of America Inc. Then the company became conglomerate by acquiring Vulcraft corporation and ultimately became NUCOR- largest mini mills operator. Though Nucor has always gained their favorable condition in US economy because of their of their capability of setting steel plants economically and running the efficiently. Also their flat hierarchy system and equality and empowerment based employee relationship help them to create a strong able employee base. As they are facing extensive competition in US market they need to set their business in untapped market such as Brazil or Africa.
Nucor does not have their own research and development facility. But in order to stay ahead of competitors they should have an extensive in-house research and development program. This continuous research will help them to create more environmental friendly and cost effective manufacturing process. Also through intensive research they might be successful in creating a usable and demanding product from their existing waste and by product. The team could also help them to tailor their product based on their customers need. So in this way they can be successful to gain more market both internal and worldwide economy. Through extensive research and development, they can also be able to find a low costing alternative raw material than scrap metal.
At the end we can say that Nucor is a strong player in both US and international steel market. Based on its human resource, operation and financial strategy it has the capability to challenge any bigger national or international company in steel
