1. Patient education is very important in Nuclear Medicine exams. Most patients are very scared when they are sent for a Nuclear Medicine exam because they do not know what’s going on. They are also scared because they are experiencing some health problems, and they do not know what they are. As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist it is very important to inform the patient on what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. This will reduce the patient’s anxiety and fear of the test. When patients hear that they are going to the Nuclear Medicine department they do not truly understand what that means. They think that it is unhealthy for them because they hear the word nuclear. So if you inform your patients that the exam is safe, and you tell them what’s going on in each step they will fell more comfortable.

One very important skill a nuclear medicine technologist must have is that they must have good patient interaction skills. As a nuclear medicine technologist you spend a lot of time with patient so knowing how to interact with them is crucial. Nuclear medicine technologist must also be able to think critically and be able to adjust exams as needed in order to get what the doctor wants. Another skill that nuclear medicine technologist need is the ability to respond appropriately to situations that might arise. Patients may experience a serious health problem while in the exam, and the NMT must know how to react to that situation.
4. I am not going to be a nuclear medicine technologist however I am going to be a radiation therapist, so I will need some of the same skills as a NMT. I have a lot of experience in patient interaction, which will help me immensely as a radiation therapist. That is one of the reasons I want to be a radiation therapist is because I like interacting with people. I also think RT is the right career for me because I enjoy helping people and as a radiation therapist you help people battle
