Future Of Nuclear Energy

Simply by hearing the word nuclear people immediately steer away from the topic or dismiss it entirely. The word is tied to death and destruction but over all else fear. We think of the atomic bombs the U.S. dropped on Japan. We think of Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, and most recently Fukishima. All three melted down leaving destruction and untold consequences in their wake. Although these events were indeed disasters, they were cause by unknown factors and were the worst case scenario; Yet these were isolated incidents and don’t represent what nuclear energy is or can be. Nuclear energy can be clean, affordable, renewable, and safe and should be considered as a positive source of energy more often. Nuclear energy was finally instituted in the 1960’s during the cold …show more content…
Well the answer is a simple yes. Even though the word “nuclear” is surrounded by stigma and reluctance it is a viable option for the future. Nuclear energy may not be as popular as solar energy or wind energy, but it should be considered more often. We learned that though current standard nuclear reactors have room for error the possibility is very low. Even with the creation of nuclear waste and water contamination they still produce more clean power than oil, coal, or natural gas. The real future prospect of nuclear energy lies in the molten salt reactor. By using molten salt and melting down the nuclear material it almost entirely stops the production of nuclear waste. Since the water also never makes contacted with the nuclear material there is no contamination and can be captured and reused more easily. Despite the stigma and criticism, I truly believe that if people take the time to learn about nuclear energy they would see all the positive outcomes that can come from it. In conclusion I believe that nuclear energy can be a viable option for renewable energy and can be a strong combatant of climate change, do

Nuclear energy is the energy released during nuclear fission or fusion. Nuclear fission is a nuclear reaction in which a heavy nucleus splits spontaneously or on impact with another particle, with the release of energy. Nuclear fusion on the contrary is the exact opposite; it gathers energy from the heavy nucleus combining with the shot particle. These two combined produce a lot of energy that is used all over the world on a daily basis. Nuclear power has proved to serve a huge part of our society today.…

Americans, and the rest of the world, should switch to nuclear power because it produces great amounts of energy with little to no waste, is constantly available and reusable, and nuclear energy is safe. Nuclear energy provides great amounts of energy with very little amounts of nuclear material. In the documentary “Pandora’s Promise” Leonard Koch(died on the fifteenth of may in 2015) said that “one pound of uranium, which is about the size of my fingertip, would produce the same amount of energy as five thousand barrels of oil.” Now in one forty-two gallon barrel of oil there is five point eight million btu(british thermal units), one btu would raise a pot of water one degree. Multiply five point eight million by five thousand, and you get…

Nuclear energy has been tried and tested over the years and has been reliable. The technical feasibility is also in place, we already have nuclear reactors that are up and running, we even are in the development process of fusion reactors, which will be even more efficient. Unfortunately, this is where the viability of nuclear power starts to fall apart. In his TED talk Joe Lassiter, a senior fellow at Harvard Business School and a climate change researcher, says it best: “So what's holding new nuclear back? Outdated regulations and yesterday's mindsets.…

A&E Television Networks, Web. 30 Apr. 2017. This is an educational site with research information. In this accurate account of the events in Chernobyl from History.com, the author elaborates on the ordeal in Ukraine regarding the nuclear power plant and radiation, contributing to thirty two deaths and the contamination of much of the country, all due to the limited experience of the workers hired at the plant. The article provides practically all the details that surfaced during the catastrophe and detailed, truthful explanations to accompany the back-story and history of the event. From this article, I concluded that since nuclear energy is a relatively new technology, where scientists are not fully aware how to handle it, disastrous accidents are likely to happen like in this case in Ukraine.…

It's easy to think that nuclear power plants are a great benefit for the united states because it will has smaller carbon footprints, it will help with air pollution however, if a nuclear accident were to happen air pollution wouldn't be the problem, radiation would be the problem. This would mean that people would not be able to survive in that area and would need to evacuate. This is worse than any other problem. To wrap it all up nuclear power is not reliable and shouldn’t be passed in the united states because it takes a long time, nuclear accidents , and it attracts…

Nuclear power is a better benefit to atmosphere and the world itself than coal. Nuclear power releases less greenhouse gases than coal making it environmentally friendly. For this reason we are better off choosing nuclear power rather than coal. Coal power plants are one of the biggest contributors to global warming. On the other hand nuclear power plants release little to no harmful gasses into the atmosphere.…

Each power plant that is producing nuclear energy can run full on 24/7 and only have to cut off once a year to refuel, meaning this energy will be reliable all the time. Not only does nuclear energy help our country environmentally but it will also help economically. A nuclear energy facility can bring in almost five hundred million dollars in sales. Yearly a nuclear power plant could bring in about seventy million dollars in revenue for taxes federally.…

After the atomic bomb was dropped nuclear physicists began looking into other uses for nuclear power. A decade later scientist were able to productively generate nuclear power into an alternative source for electricity. Nuclear reactor generate 17 percent of the electricity around the world reaching a remarkable high compared to previous years (Martin). Plants can generate more than a gigawatt of electricity which is about one million megawatts of energy. That’s why using nuclear power for electricity is beneficial.…

The people who died from nuclear power plants were caused by accidents made by stupid people making even dumber decisions. We as the human race are smarter now and understand how things work more than we used to, and we have the technological advances show for it. I believe that nuclear power plants will advance so far, that we will find a use for the used uranium. If we make more nuclear plants it will open up many job opportunities, it isn't a one man show for a nuclear plant to run, it takes hundreds of workers for a plant to run. The scientists in the control room, security, and people searching for more uranium, and of course the workers making sure there aren't any leaks in the plant(“Issues and controversies”).…

Regardless of the various definitions of renewable energy, nuclear energy meets every reasonable criterion for sustainability, which is the primary concern of countries. The United States should use nuclear energy for three primary reasons: first, it produces more cost effective energy than any other non-renewable resource. Second there is no release of greenhouse gasses which contribute to global warming, and finally nuclear energy is the most reliable source of power in the world today. Nuclear power produces electricity that is less expensive than coal and natural gas while providing more energy for use. The Energy Informative Organization supports this claim when the author states, “Generating electricity in nuclear reactors is cheaper…

Nuclear energy is a form of energy that may not be the best option. Instead of using nuclear power, we should use solar power and wind turbines. Nuclear power would have the potential to harm humans and the globe. The toxins released from the use of this could produce the radioactivity to harm humans’ genetics and could possibly lead to global warming. On top of being harmful, it could explode.…

The use of nuclear power has been under debate for many years; with issues such as environmental impact, safety, cost, waste management, and efficiency, the cons clearly outweigh the pros. Nuclear power plants have been supplying electricity to the population for nearly 60 years, but all things must come to an end as better options emerge and humanity develops as a species. It 's only natural for things to become outdated, or be replaced by better options as they become available. Nuclear power is a source of energy, created through a reaction when a uranium atom is split, releasing heat that is used to produce electricity. It was initially used as an alternative to coal, as coal-burning facilities were becoming a hazard to the environment.…
