It stores all the information related to files, users, resources and computers. It places them in proper hierarchal logical groupings. It uses this information to provide the right access and authority to the right user.

They are further categorized to three different GPOs which are site, domain and organizations unit GPOs. Site GPO is the location, domain GPO is the level of authority and lastly the organizational GPO is the Kens Windows 7 Limited. Every user’s information is saved at the local GPO. At this level, all new users are created individually and assigned the right authority.

Active Directory can make changes and apply to all the users at the same time instead of one user at a time. Due to the levels of GPOs, the lower level individual that is the user can have supremacy over the higher level. If a manager is to be assigned with a specific privilege to carry out something but not the others in the group than it can be done through Active Directory.
