Nt1310 Unit 3 Project Reflection

I really enjoyed having this class and found it very helpful in increasing my writing abilities. The unit 3 project and conference was different than anything I had done before, but at the same time useful and fun. I did my unit 3 project and final on false food advertising. I found this to be a very interesting topic as it is something I have always wondered about. My project was a PowerPoint which included examples, images, and facts about how companies and fast food chains falsely advertise their food products. While at the conference, I was able to present my project to multiple people. This was a very new environment to me, and one that I have not previously been comfortable. Due to my social anxiety, I have never done particularly well when presenting in front of people. Marielle connects food to her project by describing how climate change is affecting where the North Atlantic right whales food source is located. This is resulting in the whales having to migrate to the North East coast of Canada and is also drastically lowering the number of whales, causing them to quickly make it onto the endangered species list.
Another project I viewed, which was presented by Raymond, covered genetically modified organisms, or GMOs. In this presentation, Raymond discusses the effect of GMOs on food and people. He explained that GMOs are food with altered DNA, further discussing how big companies have attempted to use them to help bring down food production costs, resulting in lower costs for the consumer. These attempts, so far, have been unsuccessful.
