What are Network standards and protocols?
Network Standards– All networks have standards that tell the network how to work . One of these tasks could be sending data between computers. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers or IEEE is the main company that creates these standards. One of the main standards is the OSI model which I will going into more detail later
Network Protocols– These tells us the rules of how computers on a network identify and connect top each other. This also includes how data is sent between computers. An example of a network protocol would be an IP ( Internet Protocol) address. This is a number that is given to every computer, this number is basically a postcode for a computer …show more content…
It is used to devices so that they can all share data which each other. For example, this can be used to connect all computers to one printer. These are best used in small offices. They are also easily scalable as more people can be added by just connecting a new computer to the network
WAN (Wide Area Network)- This type of network can be used to connect computers over a much larger area. A lot of the time they are connected through the telephone line. These are useful for business as they can have one large network across all of the location they are based.Network Types Part 2
WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network)- This is similar to a LAN in terms of size and what they are used for but the devices on the network are connected wirelessly. If you are in a small area and need a network between a few devices this may be the best option. Most WLAN nowadays use the IEEE 802.11 standards

However the cost can be quite high because of the amount of cable needed. This is a good option because it is less likely to fail than the other optionsNetwork Standards
OSI Model– This is a reference model which describes how data is transferred between computers on a network. It uses seven layers– 1. Physical, 2. Data Link, 3. Network, 4. Transport, 5. Session, 6. Presentation, 7. Application. The OSI Model is used in most topologies and network types but a good example of where it is used is on the internet.IEEE 802.11– This is a collection of standards relating to WLAN and describes the way computers connect to each other wirelessly. It is used for communication between devices on WLANs on 2.4, 3.6 5 and 60 GHz.
