Throughout history the National Honor Society has become synonymous with the best of the best. A school club that has built a legacy on students who exemplify the ideals of leadership, service, character, and citizenship. To even be considered for a group of this nature would be an honor within itself. Leadership is simply defined as the action of leading a group of people or an organization however, I believe leadership to be much more than simply being in charge. True leadership is simply more than being bossy and I have learned this through my experiences within boy scouts.…

I love doing service not because I am forced to, but I get to be with my friends and is also a way for me to give back to the community. I love helping the needy and have participated in countless activities. For example, I was a part of a group that put together care kits for the homeless, picked up trash at a park, and created blankets for the needy. The function of the National Honor Society (NHS) is to promote leadership and help develop character in students through community service. Being part of an organization like the National Honor Society would open doors to new opportunities such as tapping into a network of individuals that have similar interests as mine. If selected, I would help contribute to the growth of NHS by using my time helping other students achieve their goals academically, whether they need help with school work or studying. By mentoring, this would also help improve my leadership skills. I would also help contribute to the success of NHS by providing ideas for new projects that could positively impact the lives of fellow members and society in general for instance,…

“The magic happens when you step outside your comfort zone.” This proverb sums up everything I went through when I recently attended the Air Force Academy’s Summer Seminar in July. While there, I was pushed well beyond my limits. We, the attendees, did strenuous physical training sessions at roughly a mile above sea level, woke up before the sun rose, attended sample classes, and studied tons of military knowledge while learning about the Air Force Academy and the admission process. It was truly a challenge being there, and I loved every minute of it!…

National Honor Society (NHS) is an organization that promotes the four pillars: character, scholarship, leadership, and service. Most of all, it is an organization where we should combine team work to improve our community, not an extracurricular we put in our college applications. Throughout my years in NHS, I have seen people join the club and run for leadership positions solely to increase their chances in college admissions. However, to me, NHS is an organization that I desire to improve upon by not only offering alternatives for point opportunities, but incorporating activities that benefit the community.…
