In the essay “What’s Happened to Disney Films?” author John Evans states the concerns of parents with regards to Disney motion pictures and how they are not as child-friendly as they were in the 1960’s compared to the 1990’s. Evans focus on the issues brought about in these films ranging from the use of profanities to violence, which should not be in Disney films. I understand the logic behind the authors position, he believes that the content of Disney films has taken a turn for the worse. Firstly, the author states that Disney has become a conglomerate having many subsidiaries and that it has had troubling effects on what Disney considers child-friendly.…
As the whimsical sounds of Disney’s Peter Pan float across the front porch of the multi-use room at Young Actors Theatre Camp, Pixar’s Jeanette Penley-Marker takes time out of promoting of beloved animated films and teaching monologue classes, with her husband and two adorable daughters, to discuss her journey to Pixar, one of the most unique studios in the animation industry. In jeans, a cotton blouse, and sneakers covered in the red dust that seems to permeate the entire area, Penley-Marker is the epitome of business creativity, working her way from acting, which she still pursues with passion, to every native San Franciscan’s dream: Pixar. “I wanted to be an actress,” says Penley-Marker, as we settle in the metal folding chairs out of the…
In today’s society, most people watch movies more often than they read books. Throughout a lifetime, people will watch hundreds, if not thousands, of movies. Every person has their own favorite genre; some people will never watch certain movies because they do not watch some genres. Abstaining from particular movies prevents people from seeing important life lessons; every movie has its own set of life lessons. There are some movies that everyone should see in their lifetime–for instance, Lilo and Stitch.…
Some movies have jaw-dropping special effects, some movies have Oscar winning actors, and some movies have heartwarming stories. Thinking about the movies I have seen in the past, I realize that although special effects become quickly dated and actors constantly change, a great story never gets old. One movie from 1982 proved to the world that it had a story worth telling more than just once. Annie tells the timeless story of an orphan winning over the brusque, wealthy character Daddy Warbucks. Annie, the spirited, optimistic orphan, becomes something that Daddy Warbucks realizes he does not want to live without.…

Fortunately, there was a man in the Midwest who fashioned such an establishment for the populace to relax their minds and have their imaginations come to life on a big silver screen.…

I am planning to write about the disney film Mulan. About how the movie Mulan (as historically inaccurate as it was) helped me see that a girl can do just about anything she wanted to do. About how that movie helped me get through being bullied in school and see things about myself that I didn’t see…
Before taking a course in film history, movies were simply a source of entertainment, with only the most beloved being analyzed. Not only this, but films that were made prior to the 70s were almost always avoided. Through the course however, I was able to gain a deeper appreciation for older films, as well as the knowledge that the analysis of films can make a simple okay movie into one that I wouldn 't mind viewing again. The course has also taught me about the ups and downs of the film industry throughout the world, giving me a sense of where we have come from and where we might be going.…
As one of the eight companies that constituted the so-called major studios that created the Hollywood studio system during the golden age, Harry Cohn has led Columbia Pictures gained the greatest creative turnover of any major studio, yet, Columbia Pictures nearly bankrupt after Harry Cohn’s death and was eventually sold to Coca-Cola. On the contrary, Disney did not focus on the revenue and Walt Disney did not became the first person in Hollywood to assume the title of president and producer, but Disney can always remembered by its ability to make people happy, to bring joy to children, to create laughter and tears. That’s the difference between time teller and clock builder, Columbia Pictures won the turnover of on year, Disney won public…
Throughout history, adults shelter children from the actual world, using movies as a method to accomplish this desire. Adults worry about children not experiencing a “proper childhood” and will give them content to fabricate an idealist encounter of life. When adults conceal the world from their children, most of the children will believe in the fantasyland presented to them. With children as well as adults, movies secured a way of sending people into another reality. However, pertaining to children movies function as an aid, keeping children in a stage of innocence.…
Media is a powerful entertainer for children. The power of media can be very influential in the minds of young children. The “Wonderful World of Disney” has been a part of America for a long time and Disney is the essence of children’s entertainment with all of its movies, television shows, songs, theme parks, toys, and fictional characters that they have created. A film review by McIlwain says how “Disney has always made “feel good” movies. Whether the good feelings come from the songs, the wonderfully animated characters, or the goofy antics, there’s no denying that on a rainy day, Disney is just the trick to make you feel good again” (31).…
“The idea that animation is an innocent medium, ostensibly for children, and largely dismissed in film histories, has done much to inhibit the proper discussion of issues concerning representation. “ (Wells, 1998, 187) Disney has had a great impact on our everyday lives. Every child, boy or a girl, and every adult, man or a woman, can say that they have encountered Disney's product at least once. Therefore, it is obvious how the certain features which Disney includes in the movies are important to be analysed and talked of. The movies communicate unique and positive messages about friendship, love, morality, and altruism.…
A movie theater in the eyes of many is a great place to spend a night with family, or with a special one. On the other hand, many other people believe that the movie theaters are actually disgusting, chaotic, and irrelevant. These people believe that staying in the comfort of their own home to watch a movie is much better than to travel all the way to a movie theater. I am one of these people who think that watching a movie in my own living room is better, than going all the way to a movie theater. Although, I love everything about movies, especially within the genre of Comedy, I feel like movie theaters are way too chaotic.…
It’s in these movies, that a child can escape reality and go to a place in their imagination, to become the character that they are watching. Although many children have fallen in love with Disney movies, they are not suitable for the adolescent mind because they portray betrayal, violence, deceit, revenge, dark magic, and sexual references or adult innuendos.…
