One line of the poem is "So eden sank to grief". That line means your innocence has been lost, you are no longer that goody goody in the bunch. Part of losing your innocence is growing and really seeing things more in depth. You cannot be innocent your whole entire life. Losing innocence is an action, not a thought. That line relates to the novel because Johnny is a prime example of someone who has lost their innocence. " He was a strange greenish-white, and his eyes were huger than I have ever seen them. I killed him, he said slowly I killed that boy." That was the point in the book where Johnny has lost his innocence, shocked and shaken up was his reaction to losing his innocence.
