At the grad level, employees are taxed on the tuition and must pay for books, but the cost of tuition is paid by the school if it is a school owned by our company. The director I interviewed explained this is still one of the great ways our company is able to provide professional development opportunities. As long as it does not affect our time during regular work hours, everyone is allowed and encouraged to take classes to advance their education. Many employees have earned their Master’s degrees this way and a few have earned their Doctorate including the campus president and Dean of academic affairs. Our campus also has around 5 professional development seminars every month that employees can attend during work hours. They address a wide range of topics. Examples for this month include a speaker from the Salvation Army and the Angel Tree Program; a speaker on hurricane recovery and your taxes; a speaker on using software for career planning; and a speaker on principles to enhance teaching and learning.
