Under Article 5 of the UN Declaration of Human Rights it says that “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment”. What is considered cruel and inhumane? I would say spraying pressurized water in below freezing temperatures and trapping them on a bridge would be cruel and inhumane. This is what happened at one of the protests that I saw happening live. Why is this considered alright to do? According to Article 20 they have the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association. They were being peaceful, and protesting and the reaction of the government was cruel and unusual punishment. We fought through the Jim Crow laws just to have Trump give power back to the racist people that don’t want equality. Has racism gotten worse, or has it been recorded more than it has been in the past? Is it being played on the media more often nowadays to create a divide or is actually happening more often? These questions should have died away years ago, and all people should have rights no matter what. Unfortunately we are still in a state where police brutality against minorities is a problem that many people face. We should be protected by these people and yet we have to get protected from them all the time. To make a change I feel that there needs to be a change in the requirements for police officers first. The human race follows by example in many cases and since our governmental officials can’t act correctly then that gives excuses for racists to be racists. Under Article 7 it states we are all equal before the law, and yet in many cases we can’t see this. We’ve been protesting since the 60’s and yet we still aren’t treated correctly. This has led to violence in protests and once that happens it takes the meaning out of the protest. We have the right to be mad, but vandalizing the area wont help our
